Northside Hospital Atlanta’s Special Care Nursery (SCN) cares for Atlanta’s most premature and vulnerable infants. Having a baby in the SCN/NICU is one of the toughest experiences any parent can endure, and you can help Northside Hospital make a difference in these families’ lives.

Infants in the Special Care Nursery receive critical and state-of-the art care that is vital for them to thrive and survive. This can be a very stressful environment for parents and families balancing the care of their newborns while confronting many complex medical issues, and often mothers are recovering from health complications themselves.  Many families are from out of town and spend extended time in the hospital supporting their infants. Read on to see how YOU can help give mothers and families comfort while they navigate their infant’s hospitalization. Make your impact today!

Tee it Up for the Girls tournament raises over $15,000 for Breast Care Fund

On October 16, 2024, the annual Tee It Up for the Girls Breast Cancer golf fundraiser, organized by Bonny Lockrem, took place at Fairways of Canton in Canton, GA, supporting the Northside Hospital Foundation’s Breast Care Fund. A multitude of women dressed in pink played 18 holes to show their support.

The event featured pink-themed raffle baskets donated by attendees, with winners announced during the luncheon. On the scenic course, participants had chances to win prizes like a golf club car, and Callaway clubs.

The event raised a total of $15,850 for the Northside Hospital Foundation Breast Care Fund, and will help provide almost 130 screening mammograms for underinsured women in the Cherokee County community over the next year.

Last year, the Northside Hospital Foundation Breast Care Fund provided 2,500+ screening mammograms for underinsured women in the community.

240 of those mammograms were for under-insured women in Cherokee County – approximately $30K annually.

The 2024 Celebrity Top Golf Classic & Baller’s Brunch, hosted by the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), was a resounding success in raising funds and awareness for the Northside Hospital Prostate Cancer Program. The event brought together an impressive group of professional athletes, celebrities, and supporters who united to make a significant impact on prostate cancer care.

Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including exciting raffles and a silent auction, featuring exclusive items generously donated by event partners. These added an extra layer of excitement and helped to further raise funds for the cause. Volunteers from the Northside Foundation played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the event, offering their time and expertise to support the many moving parts.

A highlight of the event was the impactful speeches from two key individuals: Venteria Knight, the Oncology Outreach Coordinator at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, and Ralph Puckett, a Northside Hospital prostate cancer survivor, whose personal story touched the hearts of all in attendance. Their words reinforced the importance of early detection and continued research in the fight against prostate cancer.

Thanks to the generosity of all involved, the NBRPA successfully raised $10,000 for the Northside Hospital Prostate Cancer Program. These funds will go directly to supporting the program’s efforts to provide top-tier care, innovative research, and resources for those affected by prostate cancer.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in this unforgettable event. Your support is helping to make a lasting difference in the lives of prostate cancer patients and their families. We look forward to continuing this partnership and building on this success in future events.

Together, we’re making strides in the fight against prostate cancer. To learn more about how to support our cancer institute funds, click here.

Two NICU Moms Bring Holiday Joy to Families with Operation Christmas in the NICU

For the fourth consecutive year, two dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) moms from Northside Atlanta, led by Chelsea Bassett, have launched their heartfelt initiative, Operation Christmas in the NICU. This labor of love, which started as a way to lift the spirits of NICU families at Northside Atlanta, is now expanding to include Northside Cherokee, where Chelsea currently works. The project aims to deliver Christmas gift bags filled with love, support, and a bit of holiday cheer to every family spending the season in the NICU.

For Chelsea, Operation Christmas in the NICU holds deep personal meaning. Her journey began when her daughter was born on Christmas Day 2020, arriving at just 26 weeks and weighing a mere 14 ounces. With a less than 13% chance of survival, the family spent 121 days in the NICU, navigating uncertainty during the height of COVID-19 restrictions. With no visitors allowed, the hospital staff became their extended family. During this time, Chelsea met another NICU mom with whom she shared this journey, and together they formed a bond that would lead to *Operation Christmas in the NICU.*

"Being in the NICU can feel isolating, especially around the holidays," Chelsea shares. "We wanted to help other families feel a bit of holiday warmth and remind them they’re not alone."

The gift bags are put together solely through donations and volunteer support. Chelsea and her friend are now reaching out to the community to help fund and assemble the bags. They’re hopeful that through the generosity of others, they can make this year’s expansion a success and continue spreading hope to more families.

ADP Partners with Northside Hospital for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, associates at the ADP campus in Alpharetta packed over 60 care packages and wrote nearly 100 handwritten notes of encouragement for Northside Hospital breast cancer patients.

“In addition to raising awareness about resources for breast health and preventative care, we also wanted to provide associates with a meaningful, tangible way to give back to our local community,” shared Laura Lilly, President of the Alpharetta Chapter of ADP’s International Women’s Inclusion Network.

Northside Survivorship Coordinator Kymberly Duncan delivered the care packages to Northside Hospital Infusion Centers to be distributed to patients receiving treatment. The ADP Alpharetta campus also hosted the Northside Hospital ScreenAtlanta Mobile Mammography Van for associates.

Thanksgiving Begins at Home:

Northside Hospital Foundation Brings Holiday Cheer to Families in Need

This year, the Northside Hospital Foundation continued its heartfelt tradition of giving back through the Thanksgiving Begins at Home initiative. With the generous participation of employees and Northside departments, the program successfully assembled Thanksgiving baskets filled with essential ingredients for a memorable holiday meal. These baskets were distributed to families in need, ensuring they could celebrate Thanksgiving with joy and abundance.

In addition to supporting Northside families, the initiative surpassed expectations by creating extra baskets that were donated to local charities, including Solidarity Sandy Springs Food Kitchen and Bald Ridge Lodge. These contributions extended the reach of our efforts, helping even more members of our community experience the warmth and generosity of the holiday season.

We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our employees and departments who contributed to making this initiative a resounding success. Together, we’ve not only made a difference in the lives of those we serve but also strengthened the bonds of community and compassion.

Thanksgiving truly begins at home—and thanks to your efforts, it extended far beyond, touching countless lives with hope and gratitude.
