Tristan was born prematurely at 30 weeks and weighing 3 lbs, 4 oz. He needed support from a ventilator, and then a CPAP and nasal cannula as his lungs developed. He was in the NICU at Northside for 49 days before he was able to come home. While he was there, he and our family received wonderful care from the nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, and other specialists. David and I were so fortunate that we had the help of family and friends and jobs that allowed us to spend time with Tristan each day. However, many parents find themselves in a situation where they must make decisions about whether they can afford the transportation expenses, additional childcare, or time off work required to be able to visit their preemies in the hospital. No parent should be faced with such decisions just to be able to hold their baby. In honor of Tristan’s 1st birthday, please consider a donation to Miracle Babies at Northside Hospital to help support these families at a time when they are feeling the most vulnerable.
